A pair of jewels restored-- Marjorie B. Kellogg's Lear's Daughters
I was browsing through Borders last night and literally exclaimed with joy on seeing this book. Back in the 1980s, set designer Marjorie B. Kellogg wrote her two and only science fiction novels (she's gone on to write moderately successful fantasies, such as The Dragon Quartet)with scientist William B. Rossow. They were called The Wave and the Flame and Reign of Fire, and together they formed the duology, Lear's Daughters...a cautionary tale of environmental disaster. They've gone out of print long ago, if not out of memory.

I am delighted to report that DAW has brought them back, and Kellogg and Rossow have revised the stories and incorporated them into a single volume that was just released.

This is a really good book. It's too bad that re-issues don't qualify for Hugos. This one should have gotten two when the originals were published.

Five stars.
