Burn in Hell, Christians tell Sir David Attenborough
from The Scotsman online:

HE IS considered one of the finest broadcasters of the last 50 years, responsible perhaps more than any other television presenter for revealing the wonders of the natural world to the British public.
But yesterday, Sir David Attenborough revealed that his efforts to open people's eyes to the beauty and fragility of our planet had prompted hate mail from Christian viewers for not crediting God in his nature programmes.

"They tell me to burn in Hell and good riddance", Sir David said during an interview to promote his latest documentary on Charles Darwin and natural selection.

Attenborough goes on to say that those who write him ask him why he doesn't give credit to God for the wonderful things in the universe. "They always mean beautiful things like hummingbirds." He says he writes back and asks them about the African worm that burrows through eyeballs. "The worm cannot live in any other way, except by burrowing through eyeballs," Attenborough says. "I find that hard to reconcile with the notion of a divine and benevolent creator."

So, what do I think?

I think there is room for a Creator in the Universe. I don't think it is avoiding the issue to say that I am not advanced or evolved enough to understand fully the Creator's mind and intent. I believe that evolution exists...as Attenborough says, it is a fact, not a theory, as much a fact as that I am a male. I believe that the universe has a purpose, and there is nothing contradictory in those two beliefs.

As Heinlein said, "I don't know who is cranking, but I am pleased they don't stop."

Creator explains why, not how. Why don't more people understand this?
