Slow Train to Arcturus by Dave Freer and Eric Flint has been nominated for SF Novel of the Year in the prestigeous Preditors and Editors Poll.
Dave Freer is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated authors in SF and Fantasy...probably because he lives in South Africa and doesn't get to cons much to help build up his fan base. I have loved every Freer novel I've read, including Slow Train.
Those of you with literary pretensions will recognize Slow Train as "Pilgrim's Progress" in space...but it also has a fantastically original sciencefictional basis. The concept of the slow train is a fantastic idea that I have not seen before.
And in my admittedly prejudiced opinion (the man's a good friend) Eric Flint deserves to win an award or two.
So, if you want to reward Dave Freer and Eric Flint for coming up with one of the most original ideas in 2008 science fiction, go to the Preditors and Editors poll and vote for Slow Train to Arcturus. And if you haven't read it yet, shame on you! Go immediately here and buy it: Slow Train to Arcturus
Oh yeah, and a Happy New Year!
