Hatch the sea dog On July 19, 1545 the famous and seemingly invulnerable Tudor naval flagship, the Mary Rose, sank in the Solent during an engagement with a French fleet. She sank so fast that not even the rats were able to leave the sinking vessel. Not that there were apparently many rats aboard her, thanks to the ship's dog, which the Mary Rose Museum is calling "Hatch" after the place they found her nearly complete skeleton.

The Mary Rose She is receiving the place of honor at the Crufts dog show, one of the most prestigious in the world, as a way of helping to raise the funds needed to complete the creation of a new display building to house the Mary Rose and the nearly 20,000 Tudor-era artifacts she contained when she sank.

So, if you'd like to help give His Majesty, Royal Harry's Loyal Canine a new doghouse, consider giving to the Mary Rose Trust for the Mary Rose 500 Appeal.
