Vernon Nemitz responds to the charge of terminal buttheadedness:

I can't say it any better than Jody Dorsett did in replying to this nonsense:

Truth be told, Vernon, my wife and I were aware of the risks. They are
slightly higher due to my wife being over thirty. It seems that you are a
person who judges everything by the statistical probability of
success...strike that...of failure. I suppose you are an efficient person.

I, on the other hand, look at the probability of success. I looked at an
80% chance of success with the pregnancy. That is called hope. Without
hope life is simply a drab exercise. Yes, investing in hope means that you
get hurt. But if you don't have hope you don't invest in those merchant
ships whose profits fueled the Renaissance. You don't sail three ships over
the horizon. And you don't fall in love.

To the best of my knowledge it is completely true that 90% of people never
marry the first person they take to the prom, or fall in love with. Without
hope I do not understand how it makes sense to put a lot of emotional
investment into something with a 90% failure rate.

Which puts me in mind of a quote from Lazarus Long that goes something to
the effect that masturbation is quick and efficient, but damn lonely.

I can only say that both Christine and Jody are very classy people, and Mr. Nemitz is a troll.
